On Sunday 18th February 2018 52 chicks went out in to the chicken house - a real success.

We have another 40 fertilized eggs from our laying hens ready to go in the incubator for round 2.

We are thrilled with how successful this project has become - with the right support, equipment and hard work from volunteers and staff we are now assured of chicken to eat twice a month and a plentiful supply of eggs, delicious omelettes for breakfast- yummy!!!

How exciting our self-sustainability project is now underway.

The first chicks have hatched exactly 21 days after going in to the incubator.

What a wonderful thing to be able to be part of - the children love it.

  • The Incubator Arrives - January 2018

The first chicks were purchased but now that our own hens are old enough to lay eggs we can produce our own chicks - saving a substantial amount of money.

The funds to purchase the incubator were donated by Tony Menzies, who spent much of his working life owning and running a chicken farm.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank him for his support.

Patrick and his team are looking forward to the first Footprints chicks hatching after 21 days.

What a fantastic experience for the children to watch them hatching and see them grow.

  • Our Fist Chilckens Sold.

Our chicken project is now well under way.

Just before Christmas we sold our fist chickens to a local restaurant. The funds raised by selling  some of the animals will go towards the food to rear them.

Each month Footprints will also eat approximately 16 chickens ensuring the children have  this meat once a fortnight - this will save a lot of money from purchasing the meat down in Ukunda.

As you can see everyone gets involved and again it is another life skill for our children to learn.

We welcome  our chickens all 68 of them, the children are excited but going to be very busy looking after them -  a wonderful project to have at Footprints 👣 thank you to everyone who contributed to make this happen.
